PocketBook introduces a new user interface for E Ink readers, which is based on the latest achievements in design, and embodies the main values of the company – the convenience and comfort of reading.
New user interface (UI) – is the result of the interaction of programmers and designers team, whose main objective was to make PocketBook e-readers even more comfortable for users.
Clearly set priorities, conciseness and intuitiveness became the basis of the new UI. As for the visual component, the new PocketBook interface can be described as airy, light and minimalistic.
The changes are related to all three major components of the interface: the main menu, library and application for reading.
Main menu, represented earlier as a list of books, has been completely redesigned. Now on the desktop of the main menu there are three recently read books, and lower – last loaded books, which can be accessed in a single tap. Both lists can be scrolled to the right if the user needs to see more books on the screen. Interaction with the device has become more comfortable due to the reducing the number of applications on the main screen - now there are only three. All other applications now located in two "pull-down" context menus which are available at the top and bottom of the desktop. "Settings", previously positioned as an application, now became a separate menu item. All "events" are displayed in a separate status bar, while a notification appears on the desktop. Any notification, for example, from ReadRate service, is indicated with "envelope" at the top of the screen. If there are several of such notifications – a figure appears, indicating their number.
The "Library" is also completely redesigned. Each book is illustrated with a large and bright cover. There is a new ability to classify books and create so-called "shelves". For example, it is possible to create a bookshelf "Detective", which will contain only the books of this genre. The cataloging system is improved. Now it is easier and more convenient to search for books on various criteria – for example, by date or author.
The book page is implemented in minimalism – nothing to distract the user while reading. There are only the text and number of pages. All other information, which may be needed during the reading, is available in context menu. Text setup menu has two levels. From now all text changes are displayed in real time.
In addition, each PocketBook device can customized according to user’s own wishes. The user may add functions in the context menu or remove them in its sole discretion.
The new PocketBook interface will be first used in two new E Ink readers which will be announced in mid-May 2014. There is no doubt that the new UI will be another strong advantage of PocketBook devices.
